If you’re planning to visit Atlanta or are already there, you’ve likely noticed something: the city is full of exciting things to see and do. With all of the options, it can be difficult to choose exactly what to make time for. Follow these 5 things you must do when visiting Atlanta, and you can’t go wrong.
Just because you’re in a big city doesn’t mean that you can’t go wild! For the best wildlife that Atlanta has to offer, you should definitely stop by Zoo Atlanta. This marvelous zoological park has enough attractions to keep anyone, young and old alike, entertained. The most prominent attraction that you can find here are the pandas, of course.
Zoo Atlanta is one of only four zoos in the United States to house giant pandas, making the exhibit a rare one indeed. For those visiting with little ones, there are two parks so that they can play while the grown-ups get a rest.
The Georgia Aquarium
Want to see wildlife but with a splash? If you’re looking for scaly—not furry—friends, then the Georgia Aquarium is the destination for you. This aquarium is one of the best in the country and houses its animals in a massive 10 million gallon saltwater aquarium. You can see anything from small, flitting fish, to the massive but gentle whale shark.
And, it doesn’t stop at that. You can see beluga whales and dolphins as well. This makes a great outing that is bound to be a delight to anyone and everyone, especially those who like the residents of the sea.
Want to head out to the ball game? Want some peanuts and crackerjacks? Then, you should head out to SunTrust Park and catch a game. This baseball park is the home of the Atlanta Braves, and you can be sure to find people root, root, rooting for the home team if you watch a game here. This park is just ten miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, making it a fairly easy journey for those who are anxious to catch America’s pastime in fast-paced action. Keep kids entertained with the climbing wall and zip lines; keep adults entertained with the food options.
The World of Coke
Who doesn’t like a cold glass of Coke? If you’re interested in learning about one of America’s most iconic and favorite soft drinks, then head into the World of Coke. The guided tour is the centerpiece of this museum. You’ll get to see firsthand the progress of Coca-Cola from its humble beginnings to its current soda superstar status.
This includes an old-fashioned soda jerk counter, where the drink was originally mixed fresh with syrup and soda water. Another big plus to visiting is the tasting room. Get a taste of all of Coca-Cola’s drinks, both from the United States and from around the world.
Centennial Olympic Park
For those who are looking to see a part of history, you can’t go wrong with Centennial Olympic Park. This beautiful park is the legacy of the 1996 Olympics, which were hosted in Atlanta. Once a centerpiece of the Olympic Games, this 21-acre park now hosts a nice place to spend an afternoon. Children are likely to enjoy the fountains and water pads. Adults will love the walking paths that meander through this breathtaking park. Everyone will love the water show.
